The original space was dark and damp, and the back courtyard, typical of this style of building, was crammed with small constructions. The main goal of the project was to bring light inside the new interior spaces, without sacrificing privacy.
To achieve this, the existing patio was restored and integrated into the living area, and a second courtyard was created next to the entrance, ensuring light and privacy for the bedroom and the hallway.
Both exterior spaces are connected through a traditional type of solid brick: the existent one was restored and reinforced in the back patio and the new one, locally produced, was laid without visible mortar joints and without bonding. This local material, linked to the existing structure, is the element that carries you from the façade to the main patio, linking past and present.
